UMREK March Workshop

On March 4, 2022, the first UMREK workshop by the UMREK Training and Certification Working Group was held in the Sadrettin Alpan Hall of the Mineral Research and Exploration General Directorate.

Mr. Abdülkerim AYDINDAĞ, General Manager of Mineral Research and Exploration General Directorate, attended the workshop as the MTA Representative of UMREK. Mr. AYDINDAĞ and UMREK Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Atiye TUĞRUL delievered the workshop’s opening remarks.

341 people attended the workshop, which was held as hybrid in three sessions, with both online provided through the WebEx program and face-to-face participation at the Sadrettin Alpan Hall of MTA. In the morning session of the workshop, Mr. Nuri CEYHAN, Member of the Board of YERMAM, made a presentation about “UMREK Code and Practices” and in the afternoon session, Mr. Bayram ARTUN, Member of the YERMAM Ethics Committee, made his presentation on “Ethics Education, Competence and Responsibility” in the hall. Moreover, in the afternoon session, a member of the subcommittee of UMREK Mineral Property Valuation Code (UMVAL), Ms. Ceylan Polat TREGENZA gave an online presentation about “The Methods/Standards for the Valuation of Mineral Properties” and Prof. Dr. Recep BİLDİK, chairman of the subcommittee of UMREK Valuation Code of Mineral Property (UMVAL), gave an online presentation about “Banking and Finance in the Mining Sector”.

At the end of the presentations in the workshop, which was attended by both physical and online participants, UMREK TOBB Representative Mr. Halil KIRŞAN presented Mr. Nuri CEYHAN with a certificate of appreciation, and UMREK Sector Representative Mr. Cem YÜCEER presented Mr. Bayram ARTUN with a certificate of appreciation.

Mr. Cevat GENÇ, chairman of UMREK, stated that the workshop was organized by the UMREK Training and Certification Working Group, which is one of the most important working groups of UMREK, for the purpose of contributing to the continuous professional development of Competent Persons and all components of the mining sector. Mr. GENÇ stated that these organizations will be beneficial for the development of the mining sector in general and emphasized his wish for the organization of similar workshops to be continued in the future.
